Turn Your Unused Bucharest Parking Space into Passive Income

Bucharest has roughly 1.8 million registered vehicles. Its parking infrastructure was built for a fraction of that number. The average driver in the city center spends 18 minutes per trip looking for a space. During morning peak hours, that number climbs higher.

Meanwhile, a significant portion of the city's existing parking spaces sit empty for most of the day. There is a real chance yours is one of them.

The space you are probably not using

Most of Bucharest's apartment buildings were built during the communist era, when car ownership was low. Parking bays were allocated per apartment without anticipating today's ownership rates. The result: many of those bays now belong to residents in situations like these.

  • You work from home three or four days a week and rarely move your car before evening.
  • You have two cars but one of them barely leaves the garage.
  • You travel for work or holiday and the space sits locked for weeks at a time.
  • You moved to another city or abroad and still own the apartment.

In all of these cases, the space has a real market value. Right now it is earning nothing.

What your space is worth

Parking bays in Bucharest neighborhoods like Floreasca, Dorobanti, Cotroceni, and Iancului rent informally for between 150 and 350 lei per month. On an hourly or daily basis, the effective rate is higher. Drivers circling those streets every morning would pay a fair price for a guaranteed spot if they knew it existed. The demand is not hypothetical.

How listing on Spot Run works

Listing takes about ten minutes. There are four things to do.

1. Add a numbered identifier to the space. A handwritten number taped to the wall or painted on the asphalt works. This is what renters look for when they arrive, so there is no confusion about which space is theirs.

2. Take two photos. One showing the space from the entrance, one showing a recognizable landmark outside: the building facade, a street sign, the gate. Photos let renters confirm the right location before they book.

3. Write clear access instructions. The barrier code, the interphone number to buzz, or the key handoff arrangement. The more specific, the fewer questions you get.

4. Set your price and availability. You decide what the space costs and when it is available. Traveling in August? Block those dates. Only available on weekdays? Set it that way. You can adjust at any time.

Spot Run charges a 5% commission on the renter side only. You keep 100% of the price you set.

What founding listers get

Spot Run is building its initial inventory in Bucharest now. Owners who list early get priority placement on the map when renters start searching their neighborhood. There are no long-term commitments and no upfront costs. You can deactivate your listing at any time.

If you have a space that fits any of the scenarios above, the time to list is before the map goes live, not after.
